The Florida security D license is regulated by the Division of Licensing (DOL), and they require security guards to be licensed to provide security guard services in Florida. To become an unarmed security officer, applicants must complete the 42 Hours security D course to obtain the security D license. The security guard class must be completed at a licensed security school and by a licensed security instructor. Students must pass the security certification test with a 75% or better and will receive a security certificate that is required to apply for the security d license. Students must submit their security application along with a security D Course certificate, passport photo, and a livescan background check and a security d license application fee of $97.75 to the State of Florida. The security D license is valid for two (2) years and must be renewed before the expiration date.
The Division of Licensing requires that a security guard or bodyguards working armed must have a security g license while worked armed security services. Security guards must complete 28 Hrs of classroom and firearms training. Security g license students must pass a written exam, and successfully pass the firearms range qualification to receive the armed security training certificate. Students must be trained and qualified by a Class K firearms instructor. Security guards with the security d and g license can open carry a firearm while working on duty. Security officers with the security D and G license can carry concealed while working a temporarily assigned task in plain clothes. Armed security guards can only carry a 9mm, .380 semi-automatic pistol,.45, .40 cal., a 357 and or .38 caliber revolver while on duty. The State Fee for the Florida license is $112, and the armed G license is valid for two(2) years.
Note: YOU CANNOT WORK SECURITY ARMED WITH A CONCEALED FIREARMS LICENSE (CCW). The Concealed License is for personal carry only. Students will also receive a concealed carry license certificate upon completion of the g security license training.
The Security D Course is a the required Security Guard Training for the Florida Class D License & will teach security guards the basic principles of protection including; access control, patrol, terrorism awareness, emergency procedures & more.
To work armed security jobs, security guards & or private investigators must complete armed security guard training to apply for the G license. The armed guard training will teach students firearms safety, marksmanship, & you qualify you for the Florida concealed carry license.
